Trekking Agencies Association of Nepal organised an emergency meeting in Kathmandu on May 14, 2007.
Speaking from the chair, Mr. Narendra B.C., president of TAAN informed the meeting about various efforts made by the association for full implementation of TRC (Trekking Registration Certificate) reduction among others.
Sharing his views, Immediate Past President of TAAN, Mr. Deepak Mahat asked the general members to show their solidarity to the association the latter's efforts to immediately introduce TRC.
Mr. Mahat, who is the coordinator of TAAN's TRC special taskforce, was of the opinion that the new provision, which is supposed to check illegal operations in the trekking business, would not be brought into force without pressurising the government.
Delivering his welcome address at the meeting, Mr. Sitaram Sapkota, General Secretary of TAAN, blamed the government for not being serious about implementing TRC. "Although the provision of TRC was included in the last year's government's budget, the government has failed to formulate a working procedure for its implementation," Mr. Sapkotasaid.
TAAN is planning to hand over a memorandum to the newly appointed Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, urging him to fulfill the demands within a stipulated timeframe.
