The First Mountain Bike Competition in THT on 29 april
In a bid to promote the Tamang Heritage Trail (THT) in the Langtang region of Rasuwa district as a tourist destination, the First Mountain Bike Competition ( Race) is going to be organised on April 29, 2007.
The adventure sporting event is being organized by the Tourism for Rural Poverty Alleviation Program (TRPAP), in association with the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB), District Development Committee (DDC), Rasuwa, and Himalaya Expeditions Inc., an active promoter/organiser of adventure activities.
The event is aimed at promoting the HTH as one of the premier sports tourism destinations, generating public awareness regarding sustainable community-based tourism and garnering support and encouraging such projects and utilizing tourism a tool for poverty alleviation and maximising local participation in tourism-related activities.
The race will start from Syaphrubensi and end at Goljung passing through Chaurhattar, Godam, Gatlang and Thambuchet, according to the organisers.
There will be three medical posts at Godam, Thambuchet and Goljung. It covers about 28 kilometers and is expected to be completed within 3 hours. The altitude of the trail ranges from 1460 to 2436 metres above sea level.
A Nepali participant will have to pay Rs. 500, while foreign one will have to pay US$ 99 as participation fee. The cost covers 2 night accommodations with all meals, T-shirt, transportation on Kathmandu – Syaphrubesi – Goljung – Kathmandu route, transportation cost for the mountain bike, participation fees, participation certificate.
Lying close to the capital city of Kathmandu, Rasuwa is one of the most beautiful destinations. Its easy access, close proximity to the capital and unparalleled beauty of majestic mountains dotted with quaint villages rich in culture makes it a nature lover's delight.
Race is open for only two categories: Men's Open and Women. Anyone above 18 years old with certain level of physical fitness can take part in the race. There will be cash prizes for winners for both categories.
