Hi everybody.
I (ESpeaking Kazakh experience: different Kamchatka trekking, 4 Soviet 7thousanders) and my friends: Valentina Zhukovskaya (ESpeaking Russian with experience Iturup-2006 independent expedition, different Kamchatka trekking) Andrew Fraser (a British living in Switzerland with experience: difficult trekking from Karymsky Volcano to Geysers Valley and different trekking in the mountains of CA)
Want to visit Sakhalin and Iturup Island this summer 2007 in August.
In order to make this trip cheaper for us we need more travel mates since the group size necessary for making travel costs more or less bearable is about 8 participants (English or German knowledge would be enough for communication between the group members).
If somebody wants to visit that part of the North-West Pacific together with us, such one is welcome to contact me (look at my profile, through my web-site with Kamchatka trekking maps).
The best time from 21 July until 21 September, duration of our expedition is about 3 weeks.
Of course, it would not be just a ship travel although besides Iturup on the way back to Sakhalin the m/v is to visit Kunashir, and Shikotan islands. Using cross-country vehicle for long transportations on Iturup Island allows hiking from base camps with day-bags only. Local conditions (the weather, local schedules, size of Iturup Island etc) make us to follow the outline itinerary following below:
Outline Itinerary
Day 1 Arrival by air to Yuzhnosakhalinsk (Sakhalin island) via Moscow. Accommodation at the hotel Moneron (it is necessary for registration in Russia).
Day 2. AM. SS tour in Yuzhnosakhalinsk. PM. Boarding the ship.
Day 3. Arrival in Kurilsk. Accommodation at the best local hotel. SS tour in Kurilsk.
Days 4-8. Access with a cross-country vehicle to trekking beginning. Trekking in the area of volcano Baransky. Return to Kurilsk.
Days 9-10. Access with a cross-country vehicle to the area of White and Black Rocks. Hiking there. Return to Kurilsk. Bathing in the hot springs located near Kurilsk.
Day 11 – 13. Access with a cross-country vehicle to the area of Atsonopuri volcano. Ascending of Atsonopury. Return to Kurilsk.
Day 14. Boarding the ship. The ship is to visit Shikotan island.
Day 15. The ship is to visit Kunashir island.
Day 16. Arrival in Kprsakov (Sakhalin). Transfer to the hotel Moneron.
Day 17. Visiting the shore of the sea of Okhotsk of Sakhalin island. Return to hotel.
Day 18. Transfer to airport. Departure.
