Hi there,
I am planning to visit Nepal again in 2007 to do a trekking up to Gokyo Peak. Doing some research on the issue I became aware of the new TRC regulations, as already much discussed here.
As I love doing my trekkings individually with a good friend of mine, I don't want to be obliged to take a porter with me.
Now, if there are these new regulations in place and I have to obey to them, so be it. But would it be possible to pay for a porter without actually taking him along. I just want to get the TRC and even though I don't like the thought, i'd rather pay for a porter without having him with me.
I don't want anybody to get a wrong understanding of my attitude to Nepalis. I love them and their country. The thing is just that I want to enjoy the relative lonelyness of the August in the Sagarmata area. A porter just adds another dependency to the small group of two, which I don't want. I am fit to carry my own backpack and actually see it as a part of the challenge to do a trekking.
Cheers
