The Centre, meanwhile, to promote tourism in Ladakh, has relaxed the Protected Area Permit Regime (PAPR) to enable foreign tourists to visit Turtuk, a village in the landlocked region’s Nubra valley. Turtuk was reclaimed by India from Pakistan during the 1971 war.
The relaxation of PAPR parameters will also benefit the Kargil-Khangral-Shaker, Chiktan-Sanjak-Leh and Dah-Garkone-Darchik-Batalik-Silmo-Kargil town tourist circuits, official sources here said....
...Mr Jora said that from now on tourists would be able to travel along the banks of Pangong Lake right up to the villages of Man and Merak. Earlier, he said, they were allowed to go only up to Spangmik village. He said the route along Pangong Lake from Merak to Chushul, and then across Tsaga La, Tsaga to Loma Bend, would also be considered for opening once sufficient tourist infrastructure has been developed there. A large number of foreign tourists are already visiting Nubra valley for Bactrian camel safaris and the hot sulphur springs of Panamik, he added.
