Hallo,
The beginning of Monsoon in Nepal is marked with yet another robust growth in tourist arrival numbers. There were 17,811 tourist arrivals by air during the month of June 2003, an increase of 29 per cent relative to the same period of the previous year. This was observed in the figures released today by Department of Immigration. The figures also indicate, Indian arrivals reaching another record height of 11, 967, a strong growth of 41% over last year June. Third country total remained at 5,844 with 9% growth,\" according to Nepal Tourism Board (NTB).

Januar ¤*# ¤*# ¤*# ¤*#2.131
Februar ¤*# ¤*# ¤*# 5.230
März ¤*# ¤*# ¤*# ¤*# ¤*# 9.252

Tourist arrivals by air up 29 pc in June
Post Report
KATHMANDU, July 3 : Tourist arrival via air in the month of June recorded a magnificent upsurge of 29 per cent compared to the inflow in the similar period last year. The percentage rise in arrivals is the highest for 2003.
The increase in the number of incoming tourists during the last month is a result of a massive promotion that Nepal received during the previous month while celebrating the golden jubilee of the first ascent of the Mount Everest.
According to statistics disclosed by the Department of Immigration today, a total of 17,811 tourists visited Nepal in June this year against the arrivals of 13,841 recorded in the same month last year. The month-to-month tourist increment during May was only 9 percent.
The statistics further reveals that June recorded a strong growth of 41 per cent in the arrival of Indian tourists. The number of Indian tourists visiting Nepal during the review month was 11,967, against 8,480 during the corresponding period last year.
Third country tourist arrivals also recorded an upsurge of 9 percent in June. Nepal Tourism Board (NTB), the apex body for tourism promotion for Nepal, has cited the focussed and sustained tourism promotion in India for such significant rise in the number of visitors.
"The better performance is clearly because of sustained tourism promotion in India coupled with attractive summer packages launched jointly by Nepal Tourism Board, Royal Nepal Airlines, and Indian Airlines, among others," an NTB press release states.
The NTB release further says that the growth in Indian arrivals is also because of SARS and Nepal’s moderate climate. "As Nepal is SARS free, a significant number of Indians diverted their summer trip to Nepal away from other SARS affected destinations," it states.
A clear message coming for Nepal’s travel trade out of this month’s success with Indian market is that it pays back effectively if we approach the Indian market with an effective marketing strategy and action plan, the NTB release reads.
According to the statistics, the British and American markets ascended this month after a series of decline in the past. The American market grew by 7 percent and British by 22 percent. However, arrivals from countries like Germany, Japan, France and Australia have declined.
The composition of Indian- and non-Indian tourists in the total tourist arrival for the month of June stood at 61 percent and 39 percent respectively.
Meanwhile, when analysing the statistics for the first six months of the current calendar year, there has been a surge of nine percent in the total tourist arrival, when compared to the first half of 2002.
A total of 109,446 tourists visited Nepal in the first half of 2003, up from the arrivals of 100,616 recorded during the first six month of the year 2002. Of the total tourists, the surge in third country tourist arrival was 9 percent while that of Indian tourist was 33 per cent.
