In a bid to attract more trekkers in the controlled areas, the government has revised permit fee in different controlled areas of the country. The notice regarding the revision of permit fee was published in Nepal Gazette (Volume 58 No 10) and the revised permit fee will come to effect from Shrawan 1, 2065.

As per the new provision, a trekker in Upper Mustang and Upper Dolpo has to pay US $ 500 or equivalent foreign currency per person for first 10 days. Likewise, fee for per extra day per person has been fixed at US $ 50 or equivalent foreign currency. Trekker in Manasulu Region needs to pay US $ 70 for a week and US $ 10 per person for each extra day during September to November. However, only US $ 50 is charged per trekker per week during December to August and additional US $ 7 per trekker per each extra day. Similarly, permit fee for Humla (Simikot-Yari) has been fixed at US $ 50 per person per week and US $ 7 per person per extra day.

Similarly, the government has also revised existing tourist visa fee to be effective from Shrawan 1, 2065. As per the new fee structure, US $ 25 or equivalent foreign currency is required to obtain Tourist Visa with Multiple Entry for 15 days. Likewise, Tourist Visa with Multiple Entry for 30 days can be obtained by paying US $ 40 or equivalent foreign currency. Similarly, Tourist Visa with Multiple Entry for 100 days can be obtained by paying US $ 100.

Likewise, the government has also revised fee required to extend days of stay and visa renewal. As per the revise fee structure, Tourist Visa can be extended by paying US $ 2 or equivalent Nepalese currency per day. Likewise, Multiple Entry facility can be obtained only for the extension period by additional US $ 20 and visa fee for the extended period. Similarly, tourists can renew their visa by paying Nepalese currency equivalent to US $ 3 on the regular visa extension fee.

Dear Saipal,
thanks for the interesting news.
Seems like Nepal is trying to make tourism in restricted areas more attractiv. Now the nepalese government has to motivate some more airlines to offer flights to Kathmandu to really improve the situation...
Best regards, Hannes.

Thank you, Saipal.

Do you know if there will be any extra fine for not reporting to the visa office before the end of the visas validity? I.e. if I want to stay for, say 40 days, do I have to extend the visa at day 30 at the latest or is it sufficient to pay the 20 USD extension fee when leaving Nepal whithout the risk of getting fined?

Warmly,
Soshin

Hallo Saipal,

very sharp news!

Specially the visa extension and the lowering of the Dolpo Fee make my plans become more realistic..
Are there any updates about the Mustang permit fees ?

Best Regards,
Hannes

Dear Hannes, Soshin and Nepal lovers
Many thanks for all your comments.I will post regularly the news concerning the toursim of Nepal in this forum.

To Soshin
Dear Soshin,as far I know that, if someone do not report to the Dept of immregation before the end of visas validity then immregation dept may take 24 hours in custody and penalty of US$ 40 PP.
This kind of case has already occered in kathmandu So it is safe & better to extend Nepal visas in time ( before it expired).
if you want to stay Nepal in 40 days but your visa vailid for only 30 days in this case you should extend your visa for this 10 days in time before getting trouble.

Dear saipal-peak!
Thanks for your reply and the good news! It becomes rather likely for me to visit Dolpo and Mustang next year..

Hi Soshin,

on my last trip to Nepal (october 07) I was exactly in the situation you are talking about.
I was 8 days behind visa expiary when I checked in at Tribhuvan Int. to leave Nepal. I actually didn`t noticed because I expected the visa to be valid for 60 days after landing...The Immigration officer told me I only got a 30 days visa because it was my second stay in Nepal within one year (2007). I had to pay 16 US Dollers but I only had 10 Dollers left after paying the departure-Fee. So he looked around, sent his assistant to get some papers took the 10 dollers in his pocket, gave me the stamp in the passport and wished me a nice flight..:D

Hannes,

Why is it that I somehow had the suspicion that a problem like this could be dealt which in one or another way.... lol

But of course, Saipal, I will do as you suggested. It is not that bad when staying in Kathmandu anyway. It just could become a problem for those going trekking for more than, say, four weeks or so.
But anyway, thank you for being our man in Kathmandu. ;)

Yours,
Soshin

Somehow I agree with Hannes. Most of immrigation staff of Nepal are very corrupted Peoples. They do lots of illigal work with money under the table.
we had bitter experienced in two years ago. A group of Thai peoples ( total 40 Tourists) entered Nepal via Sunauli-Bhairawa to kathmandu. They had Nepal visa from thailand .But the immregation in sunauli forget to
stamp ( Nepal entry date) on their passport during their entry in Nepal. They have visited 4 days in Nepal and wanted to fly back kathmandu to Bangkok by Thai air. After all checking in TIA,when they arrived in immregation counterat then immregation staff did not allow them to fly Bangkok. The staff asked to group to show the entry stamp in their passport but they had not.It was not tourists mistake it was mistake of immregation peoples of Sunauli. Then thai tourist had got trouble. In the main time a next immregation staff came to group and asked Total US$ 200 under the table to allow them to fly bangkok but the group leader did not accept the proposal then immediatelly all the 40 thai tourists send to immregation dept at Bhrikutimand where they have paid US$ 40 PP as a fine ( Penalty)and were fly to Bangkok next day (They missed first day flight but they had luck to get seat in next day flight for a big group).
In conclussion, we may say that, the staff of Nepal immregation can do lots of help to you if you can pay them under the table.
