Suspected Maoists Friday evening exploded a bomb at a guest house at Thamel, a tourist hub in Kathmandu, injuring one policeman and one civilian, the local police told Nepalnews.
The bomb went off at a massage centre housed inside the guest house "Down Town Guest House" at 7:20 pm in the evening, a duty officer at Sorha Khutte Police Station told Nepalnews.
The injured were a police constable Prem Giri and a civilian Bishnu Acharya, the officer said. Giri was wounded, as he rushed to the incident site after hearing about a suspected bomb from the locals, the officer said.
Acharya was the husband of Neeta Acharya, the owner of the massage parlour, it is learnt. Security forces are highly mobilised in the area and hunt for the culprit(s) is going on, according to the officer.
This was the second blast within 12 hours in the capital after Ward No 17 office building of Lalitpur sub-metropolis was bombed Friday morning. The explosion has partially damaged the office building.
Meanwhile, the Home Ministry, in a press meet today, said locals have arrested and handed over one suspect involved in the explosion at the ward office. nepalnews.com mr Mar 5 04

Es scheint sich doch etwas in Nepal zu tun, was mit den Touristen zu tun hat. Zwar sind die "Bomben" im Down Town Guest House und in Sorakhutte gegen die Prostitution gerichtet, aber das es in Thamel nun doch eine (wenn auch relativ kleine) Explosion gegeben hat, ist in jeden fall bedenklich.
Zwar sind Touristen nicht erklärtes Ziel der Maoisten, aber bedenklich ist und bleibt bedenklich.
Ich kann Susanne sehr gut verstehen, ich selbst habe noch vor kurzen geschrieben, das ich keine größeren Probleme sehe nach Nepal zu kommen.
Ich würde im Prinzio auch dazu noch stehen, kann aber auch nicht sagen, das es nicht folgerichtig ist, sich Gedanken über die Situation zu machen
Natürlich wurden wieder keine Touristen direkt betroffen, auch keine Todesopfer sind zu beklagen.
Ob und wie sich jedoch die Lage weiterentwickelt, muss nun doch mit erhöter Aufmerksamkeit beobachtet werden.
Es ist schade das ich dieses schreibe, aber der Realität kann man nicht ausweichen.
Trotzdem denke ich nicht, das es sich primär gegen Touristen richtet.
NB: von einer Blokade in Chame habe ich nichts gehört.

Ein Local hat mir erzaehlt, das hatte damit was zu tun, weil der Betreiber den Massagecenters etwas mit dem Geheimdienst zu tun gehabt hatte.
Keine Ahnung obs stimmt. Krass ist es auf jeden Fall. Am Morgen des selben Tages ging eine Bombe in Patan hoch.
Angst spuehrt man hier, mE nicht. Allerdings haben die Maoisten ja auch die Blockade diverser Touristendestinationen im Land ausgerufen. Hinzu kommt der Westen.

Maoists declare blockade in 13 district headquarters
The Maoists have announced blockade in 13 district headquarters of Narayani, Gandaki, Dhoulagiri, Lumbini and Gandaki zones, reports Thursday said.
A Nepal Samacharpatra report said three Maoist-affiliated organizations namely Tamuwan National Liberation Front, Magarat National Liberation Front and Madhesi National Liberation Front have issued a joint statement declaring blockades in the district headquarters of Chitwan, Nawalparasi, Rupandehi, Palpa, Syanja, Kaski, Tananun, Parwat, Lamjung, Gorkha, Gulmi, Myagdi and Manang.
Maoists have said they have blocked human mobility to and from the district headquarters, which, in most of the places, will remain effective from March 8 to 25 while in a few places the blockade will go for an indefinite period.
In Gulmi, the self-style Magarat Autonomous Government declared embargo on Wednesday, restricting people from moving to the district headquarters.
The Maoists, according to report, have made it known that they have adopted a policy to force the government officials, security personnel and representatives of municipalities and district development committees to quit their posts.
The ultras have also threatened to bring the transportation, communication, trade as well as human mobility to a standstill in these districts. They are known to have issued the decree in preparation of what they called “strategic retaliation”. nepalnews.com mbk March 4 04

erstmals danke, daß du so seriös antwortest und die sache nicht verharmlost. "beruhigend" ist es, daß die bombe nicht gegen den tourismus, sondern gegen die prostitution gerichtet war (davon hat man typischerweise wieder nichts gelsen / umso besser daß jemand vor ort ist zum informieren!)
nur leider wird es vielleichtr nicht mehr lange dauern, bis ein tourist zur falschen zeit am falschen ort ist und zu schaden kommt. dann ist der teufel los!
ich hab mich schon recht gefruet, mir meine bedenken (siehe andere post) zerstreut, und jetzt das. weißt, auch wenn es wieder besser wird, ich halt das mit den nerven nicht aus, und ich glaube, ich würde in kathmandu dauernd mit einer gewissen angst im nacken herumlaufen.
ich storniere nach nepal! vielleicht kann ich den flug ja noch umbuchen und nach indien reisen / sikkim oder garhwal oder so.

eine neue Bombe heute nachmittag am alten Busbahnhof. ich war gerade dort und hoerte den Knall. einen Bus hats zerfetzt, Opfer gibt es glaub ich keine!!!!
bin froh wenn mein flieger geht.
